Togo movie review

Togo movie review

In the winter of 1945, a deadly disease called Diphtheria attacked Nome, Alaska, making the cure vaccine hundreds of miles from the city, nearly 700 miles from all the deadly snowmobiles, the team of skate dogs had to travel all those miles to prepare for it. When the 20-pound serum was to be flown in by plane; a severe snowstorm set in, leaving only the town’s dogs to help. And it was.

Ski teams run a race against the ice to transport the antivenom diphtheria serum, which will eradicate the pandemic all the way through the cruel atmosphere. This is called a race of mercy, and Togo focuses on delivering the vaccine.

In this sense, we can prove that not all heroes are human. There are stories that we have not discovered that are the essence of the heroism of animals. The 12-year-old dog, Togo, and Leonhard have a humanitarian duty: to bring the vaccine for an epidemic that hit the city of Alaska.

Firstly, when the star of the film is a dog, this requires an additional effort to create his own chemistry with the hero. This was evident in the performance of Willem Dafoe with Togo, especially in the ending scene. In addition, the role of Dafoe’s wife Constance (Julianne Nicholson, you may know her in the series Mare of Easttown); who was opposed to him, negotiated the essence of the film.

On the acting level, emotional scenes appeared between Willem Dafoe and the dog, Togo. The performance of the actor was remarkable in his transition from being harsh with his dog to the stage of crying because the dog was near death. I like Willem Dafoe as an actor especially his contribution in John wick 1; and in Togo’s movie where he got the leading role, we can see clearly his talent as an actor.

Moreover, the Cinematography on Togo was the finest, you will enjoy the views of Alaska, which were well transmitted to us by the director. Ericson Core (I believe he participated in the first Fast and furious movie) was successful in choosing the right shots in the right moments. Some scenes must have been made by CGI, but they were made smoothly and did not decrease the pleasure of the viewing experience; that is for sure!

On the other hand, the scenario was off the charts, impeccable; the writer succeeds in making logical twists all along the movie’s duration, especially when it comes to linking between some important events of the movie.

It is a 2019 American drama that first appeared on Disney Plus. The movie is about “two main characters in 1925 in a race, also known as ” the Grand Mercy Race”, where dog skis teams moved to transport antivenom serum during harsh conditions about 700 miles away to save the city of Alaska.

In Conclusion, Togo’s greatness is that not all heroes are human. This emotional film presents a message of true heroism and sacrifice for others and expresses the friendship between animals and humans in a different way. And the fact that animals did actually play a major role in the development of humankind; the proof of that is that we were together for thousands of years.
