Movies like West Side Story

1 – La La Land

Damian Chazelle’s La la Land, the winner of the Oscar and +200 more award is the closest similar movie to West Side Story.

The movie shows us the story of a young man and woman, each one of them is trying his best to make something good of his life and acquire a good career. Sebastian is a Jazz pianist and Mia is an actress at the very beginning of her career.

While life brings them together they fall in love and chase their dreams together.

2 – Song One (2014)

After her brother went into a coma, Franny returns home after a long disappearance. And in order to up her brother’s mood she tries and finds his favorite musician James Forester, this makes her life take a big turn!

3 – Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Thirdly, in our list, we have Bohemian Rhapsody starring Ramy Malek, and in an incredible performance, he most certainly nailed the oscar.

The movie is taking us on a lovely journey of discovering the life of Fredy Mercury from the beginning of his career until the end of it.

4 – Whiplash (2014)

You want to see J.K. Simmons in excellent acting, Whiplash is one of the works I recommend to you. Moreover, the movie is one of the movies I know like West Side Story.

What is good about this Damian Chazelle’s movie is it takes a very simple story with some interesting characters. Talking here about Fletcher the music teacher, who shows bullying behavior toward his students.

5 – Coco (2017)

Coco, written by Adrian Molina and Matthew Ulrich, and directed by Lee Unkrich, is about Miguel; a young musician who would like to become a famous musician like De La Cruz. But this career is forbidden by his family because his grandfather left the family to pursue his musical dream.

His wife relied on herself and made shoes. Then, it became the family profession that is passed on to individuals generation after generation. On the day of death, Miguel steals De la Cruz’s guitar to take part in a music contest. But he ends up in the land of the dead and the only way to get his family blessed.
