Like the previous list of best short series that we made, this list of the best horror movies also is not arranged in order. So we offer you 40 of the scariest horror movies, hoping you may find someone to watch tonight!

1 – It: Chapter 1

credit to Warner Bros. Pictures youtube channel

” It, ” tells the story of 7 children (The Losers’ Club) on a summer holiday in 1989 that initially looked perfect but took a bad turn when young people began to disappear unexplained across the small town of Derry, Maine. Though they don’t like the horror that approaches them all, they can’t escape the visions of their greatest fear, which are becoming more and more real. Those fears are being revived by the clown Pennywise, played by Bill Skarsgard with a meritocracy that inspires both dismay and horror.

” IT ” may not be Stephen King’s finest movie (though nearly at such a remarkable level), but it is probably the most soul-carrying. Director Andy Muschietti conjures the smooth melodrama that the famous author has created in his books while conjuring with them moments of mental torment and real fears because he understands that these two things are coming out best and worst in each other.

Nightmares are even more terrifying when they come out of happy dreams, and happy endings become much more meaningful when they are preceded by scary events. And of course, everything gets even scarier when there’s a scary clown in it.

2 – Truth or Dare

truth or dare horror movie

Truth or Dare starring Lucy Hale is Olivia, a college student who was spending the entire spring break building homes for Habitat for Humanity, but her best friend Markie (played by Violet Beane) is convincing her to go to Mexico to celebrate.

Moreover, their holiday takes them to an abandoned; run-down house of worship where a mysterious stranger suggests that they play the game of truth or dare. They accept that, but? Surprise!! The game is haunted by a demon spirit and now they have to keep playing; forever, and if they refuse they will be killed.

Nice Hollywood horror movie, we did a complete review here.

  • Genre: Horror, Thriller
  • Stars: Lucy Hale

3 – Get Out

list of best horror movies

Simple story, an African-American visits his wife’s parents where he finds real weird things going on.

I personally consider Get Out to be one of the best recent horror films, perhaps the most respectable of the viewer’s mentality, a film that presents its idea in a very clever and innovative way, a director in his first cinematic experience who offers us a film that is very beautiful.

Immersed actors like the director himself are doing the best performance in their career up to the moment, a totally unconventional film at a time when there is so much vulgarity, especially in this category. It will open new horizons in the future to make such films. I thank everyone who contributed to making this film, and I wish to repeat such an experience in the near future. And good luck to Jordan Peele in his career as a director.

  • Rating: 7.7
  • Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller
  • Stars: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener

4 – It: Chapter 2

credit to Warner Bros. Pictures youtube channel

The film IT is one of the scariest horror movies, he uses flash clips to take us back to different points and thus suffers from a fragmented structure with an inconsistent rhythm compared to its first part. His first half is quick to start events and he knows us about our friends “The Losers Club” after they became adults and all were united: Bill, Jessica Chastain, Richie Hadeer, Mike (Ayzeya Mustafa), Jay Ryan, Eddie (James Ranson) and Stanley (Andy Ben), to go on their mission to kill Bennweys (Bill Skarsgård) once and for all.

It: Chapter Two carries the heart of the first movie but is buried under a layer of unnecessary, dramatic events. Director Andy Moschetti builds a series of good, scary moments, which are supported by an outstanding performance from both the adult and adolescent actors’ staff. Unfortunately, It: Chapter Two does not reach the required level and suffers from its frequency, and as a result, does not bring the perfect conclusion to this overwhelming epic.

Stay tuned, a separate review of IT Chapter 2 is coming in the future.

a quiet place horror movie

The movie is directed and starred by John Krasinski (and this is the third film to be directed); along with his real wife, actress Emily Blunt.

A Quiet Place is full of parental anxiety and teenage anger; if we had taken the monsters out of the film; it would have been a local drama about the devastation that may occur as a result of lack of communication between family members. We did a full review of the movie, definitely recommended.

9 – Come true

come true horror movie main character wearing red and blue

At her school, Sarah recognized a promotion for a rest facility; extending to an employment opportunity where she was basically “paid to rest” for a clinical report. Hoping to rest without dreaming, this was an easy decision for her. Materialize then acquires force as we dive into Sarah’s dreams where some will puzzle over whether they’re the ones who are dreaming. What appeared to be harmless from the start just deteriorated as the researchers running the test saw something exceptionally unconventional about Sarah’s fantasies.

What’s stunning about Come true was how it takes watchers behind Sarah’s fantasies. Brimming with strange symbolism, her fantasies weren’t generally as they appeared as the obscurity that Sarah experienced turned out to be progressively genuine. 30 – Us 2019

credit to Universal Pictures youtube channel

The Wilsons, a seemingly ordinary, middle-class family of 4 people going on vacation to their summer home near the California coast. There’s a sense that not everything is as awesome as the beautiful, glittering beaches want you to think. Peele cleverly creates this ominous feeling of doom from the start by developing powerful characters, especially with Lupita Nyong’o (of the Black Panther film).

Lupita Nyong’o plays Mother Adelaide, who is haunted by a traumatic experience she had when she was young on a similar vacation with her father and mother. The flashback footage that takes us back to Adelaide’s childhood provides a valuable insight into why her character looks sad and is often filled with doubts about the world around her. Lupita Nyong’o exemplifies the spectacular trauma to her character, which swings on the brink of madness with every frightening twist.

US film is so weird. But it’s okay because it wouldn’t be a Jordan Peele movie if it didn’t take some risk. Peele proved that his success wasn’t a mere coincidence that won’t be repeated with this horrifying and thrilling movie about an American family going through hell at the hands of crazy peers. The strangeness of the story is enhanced by the way the excellent characters develop, especially with the Adelaide character played by Lupita Nyong’o. The Gape character, played by Winston Duke, adds some sense of humor necessary to soothe tension and blood, and the two kids have a lot to do. The efficient use of music and stunning imagery elevates above normal horror and thriller movies. Peele has made a wonderful new American horror story, don’t miss it.

  • Rating: 6.8 (definitely deserves more)

  • Stars: Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss

The Chucky Doll has come back, but on the other hand, Chucky has never left. While it may not be perfect, and although it may sometimes fall victim to some of the downsides of this kind of film, Split can be rated as the most exciting, fun, and amazing movie by M. Night Shyamalan for over a decade. He may not be able to reach the level of some of his earlier works, but he is getting too close.

M. Night Shyamalan is a good director but I would appreciate it if he doesn’t do those acting attempts because with all respect his acting sucks.
