Knives out movie review

knives out Christopher Plummer

On the morning after his 85 birthday, Harlan Throombe (Christopher Plummer) is found dead, apparently a self-inflicted neck wound. Of course, with the knife still in his hand, and a continuous circle of blood all over his body; it seems a case in point.

Two police officers (played by LaKeith Stanfield (acted in Uncut Gems and Get out ) and Noah Segan) are investigating the offspring of Harlan and their spouses, a group of wealthy, hateful, and deranged people. That’s because Harlan Tharumbe, one of the most successful authors of crime novels in history, has amassed wealth that his children have squandered for their entire lives, money that may have encouraged some to believe they are above the law.

But there has been no murder so far, at least until the arrival of Benoit Blanc; played by Daniel Craig (AKA James Bond), who is apparently the last of the most polite investigators. Firstly, In his quirky style, smoking a large cigar, Blank explains that he is there at the request of a shadowy agent suspected of murder, who was paid a large sum to solve the case. Secondly, that’s where the game starts. Chris Evans (we reviewed his movie Snowpiercer) plays Ransom, his performance was okay, nothing impressive.

Moreover, along with the Thrombey family; there is also a Harlan nurse: Marta (Ana de Armas, (you may be sawed her in “War Dogs”) who plays one of the most brilliant and compelling performances in the film), is originally from Paraguay, Ecuador, or Brazil, according to her inquirer. She is welcomed into the family and is a character who grows in importance as the investigation progresses.

The film offers a large cast and is full of celebrity stars; but the scenario ensures that each actor has several moments to shine. Craig dominates the scenes with Planck’s role. Although there are moments when his theatrical performance seems more appropriate for satirical simulations such as Clue or Murder by Death, the actor’s performance remains within the bounds of acceptable parody, which makes us hope to see more Benoit in another future adventure.

However, don’t be surprised by the title of the review of Knives Out; you are in front of the fun, cool version of police stories you’ve grown accustomed to seeing since childhood, like those of Agatha Christie .. a weird mix, I don’t know if it was presented in previous films but I’ve never seen it before… Strong opinions from critics (I went so far as to describe it as the most fun movie of the year) combined with the power and enormity of the cup to make it one of the most anticipated films of 2019… Was the film as predictable as this great year’s offer of a new masterpiece or Override a larger media hype than it deserves?

In Knives Out, author and director Ryan Johnson rides the idea of “who have done it” taking the elements that characterize this subgenre of movies, first sticking to them, then starting to mock them, before turning viewers’ expectations upside down, the result is a delightful combination of comedy and excitement, plus fun and highly satisfying murder mystery.

Instead of the mystery inside the movie and the cells of your mind start working to discover the killer give you everything without suffering .. it makes you focus on the outside and what is hidden is greater .. Makes you think about knowledge, so you can distract your mind from a question of who’s the killer? And you stop looking to replace it with the question, will they survive it or not? .. As your feelings dominate your thinking, the film starts to hit one after another .. surprise after surprise… Whenever you think the movie is nearing the end, you will find a new twist that will reignite the events.

Knives out Rating

Usually, in this type of film, the events of the film dominated by mystery; because it is the only tool the makers have to create suspense, excitement and attract the viewer; who adopts the role of the investigator in trying to uncover the perpetrator.

Then the mystery is revealed gradually, and eventually, the perpetrator is found to be someone we never expected at all… He’s quite fascinated by the film and the author’s intelligence in putting together a clever twisted plot that he couldn’t solve, but Knives Out has largely abandoned this tool of power despite having so many suspects in one place…

Even tension minimized by comedy; which took up a lot of space and was most of the time coming in its place… This didn’t reduce the level of quality of the film, it increased its distinguishing from other films… The filmmakers were fully aware of their goals; directions so it’s no wonder everyone came out impressed with the film and highly praised it.

David Crank’s production design is stunning, and the huge mansion in which the events are taking place is designed in a superb gothic 17th-century style full of secrets that make it an ideal location for a murder. That is if there was a perfect location for such a thing in the first place.

We recommend Guns Akimbo review.

In Conclusion

A quick thing to mention to keep in mind while watching is the artwork in the mansion; the artwork was not placed for decoration, but it follows the style of the 17th century where there was a common slogan that says “Memento Mori” meaning exactly, remember that you are going to die one day! and this phrase represented especially in paintings; that is the reason why you will see some paintings around the mansion with skulls or something like this. So big shoutout to the decoration work of the movie Knives out.

To sum up, Knives Out is a crime movie and thriller with a great sense of humor. It seems clear to us from the first shot that Ryan Johnson and his cast crew have a great time; this mix of comedy and mystery makes the film a real fun for viewers. Moreover, through its clever plot, Johnson can make a film about “who have done it” that reaches the storytellers of Agatha Christie or Arthur Conan Doyle, which will leave viewers wondering about the truth until the last minute.

Knives Out deserve all the praise. Present an unusual mix in his category… As if Tarantino had taken one of Agatha Christie’s novels; and presented in his unique style The Rush without Blood, of course… The makers succeeded in achieving all the goals they wanted except the unsuccessful attempt to wrap the film in some political dimensions.

A crime presented with a brilliant and brilliant plot, and what’s more important; logical, didn’t try to belittle the viewer’s mind… The comedy of situations that were so effective made the film deserved the title of “Funniest” in 2019 with full aptitude. A beautiful atmosphere, wonderful decor, and suitable photography for the quality of the film.
