Kate movie trailer

Hello everyone, Kate movie review is what we are going to be roasting today, without spoilers of course. The film is Action, Crime, Drama. It suits people over 18 years old, and you can find it on Netflix. Kate film is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Woody Harrelson, Miku Patricia Martineau.

Worth mentioning that the director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan’s specialty is visual effects (Snow White and the Huntsman, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Assassin(s)1997), and have directed only about 2 or 3 movies.

The story of the film, in a nutshell, is about a hitwoman, named Kate, who got around 24 hours left on her lifespan to take revenge on people who poisoned her.

Discussing this movie with some friends, I see that they describe the movie as feministic, further, insultingly devaluating men! Well, personally, speaking about feminism in cinema, if the film is directly devaluating men, I am totally against it.

However, they are plenty of feministic movies out there, that I consider being great ones; for instance, Aliens, Terminator 2, Molly’s Game, Kill Bill, Atomic Blond, and so on, I can go all day. The point is, feminism is not a monster that appears on the horizon, as long as it does not marginalize men.

And Kate film was not that monster, not most of the time at least. I found it to be exciting in a way that gave me chills in some scenes. It is a pleasant movie you will find yourself literally engaging in the story, and sympathize with the main character.

The film is literally loaded with action scenes, there are some mistakes of course; however, you can look the other way. The film will certainly remind you of John wick (If you want some news on the fourth chapter of John Wick you’ll find them here).

Kate movie review

I hesitated to review Kate movie at first, and one of the reasons was that I saw that the film does not add anything new to the table. I mean if we took a closer look, many scenes were a complete imitation of John Wick, literally!

However, after thinking a little I see that there are things that make the movie deserves to be roasted.

Kate movie , sniper scene

So, the movie is filmed in Japan, exactly in Tokyo. As a result, there were many eyes pleasing scenes (of course filming took place in Japan as well as Thailand and the USA). Especially scenes with Neon lights, they were great, made me feel like I am in Japan witnessing the action!

Seriously the action scenes were professionally designed. Action scenes here are perhaps one of the most visually pleasant action scenes that I saw since Nobody movie came out.

However, action scenes become a little all over the place shall I say, as a result of the main character Kate suffering from something…

Otherwise, the movie got my attention from the first scene, lost me approximately in the middle since I saw this “one-woman army” taking down all these badass Yakuza, while she is not in her best shape! However, it got my attention back at the end

Talking about the Yakuza, from what I know, the Yakuza are not living that comfort luxurious life. In fact, they are taking a big fall, and the Japanese government is suffocating them pretty badly. you can check the downfall of the Yakuza here.

Still, I would like it if the movie took us more deeply into the dirty work of the yakuza because there was a scarcity in terms of the yakuza world is Kate film.

Saving the cat moment

netflix

There was a good side added to the main character kate, besides her being a cold-hearted assassin. You may be familiar with the term “saving the cat moment” we talked about it in another review (maybe Don’t Breathe movie review). If you don’t know it is simply the fact of making a bad character does something good, which consequently gives the character a good side and makes you feel sympathy towards her.

And basically, that was applied here from the beginning of the film, the thing that made us feel sympathy towards her. By the way, that is not something new, we see things like that all the time. However, it is not something bad.

Kate movie cast

Of course, I was attached to the character during all the movie. Furthermore, the story of the film and the events and twists, in general, are very predictable. You won’t take too much time to figure out the plot of the story, but that does not take anything from the joy of the movie.

Okay, let’s talk casting, shall we? Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Kate), to be honest, her acting was off the charts, with a few flaws, but she was great. We can consider Mary to be an underdog Hollywood actress, at least in my opinion; but seriously she can give you anything, from sad Drama, to Horror, to Action movies!

She has some good movies, like the Drama film All About Nina, the Horror movie The Thing. And in terms of Action, she’s got this movie we are reviewing now, as well as Birds Of Prey with Margot Robbie. Bottom line is, Mary Elizabeth Winstead got a wide range of acting.

Mary’s presence on the screen is lovely, she can easily grab your attention! There were some characters that can be described as “disturbing”. Moreover, does not identify with the atmosphere of the film.

It was good to see Woody Harrelson, for the record his performance was nice, However, is it necessary to bring him, him exactly to play the role? or is it just for the sake of putting him in the poster and selling the movie?

I have to say though that the soundtrack is something different! here listen!

In Conclusion

The other half of the movie touches the redemption, shall I say. Where the main character tries to make up for her mistakes towards another character, this really made things a little messy. As a result, the ending was kind of predictable.

So, the Action scenes were off the charts impeccable. Building the world where the story takes place was great. I wish they changed the last part of the movie, but it’s okay!

I genuinely recommend the movie, it is very entertaining, Fast, Bloody. Should you like John Wick, Atomic Blond, Nobody, you will love Kate as well.

To sum up, I have to say that nevertheless, the movie is good, but it is easily forgettable. Personally, I woke up this morning I didn’t even remember the name! But this does not reduce the quality of the movie, all that is, there isn’t that story that sticks, you know?

So is this the best Netflix has ever done? Emm no of course. But it does not mean it is bad. The movie devaluates men? I don’t think so. Is he a copycat of John Wick? yeah LOL, and you will see yourself, they took some scenes exactly like John Wick! But in the end, Cinema is a reference.

Okay, while I leave you with some behind-the-scenes, I would like to read your opinion on the movie in the comments!
